This course has been developed to provide healthcare workers responsible for the management and reprocessing of Flexible Endoscopes (also referred to as reusable medical devices – RMDs) with an understanding of the recommended reprocessing procedures from an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) risk management perspective.
This course has been designed to educate healthcare workers responsible for the management and reprocessing of Flexible Endoscopes and accessories of the recommended procedures according to current standards, guidelines and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
This course includes:
- Cleaning of Flexible Endoscopes and accessories, including additional information in relation to cleaning required for colonoscopes in the event of poor bowel preparation, and
- Storage of Flexible Endoscopes – including additional information in relation to extended shelf-life in a Controlled Environmental Storage Cabinet (CESC).
This course provides an understanding of:
- risk minimisation
- water quality
- precleaning of Flexible Endoscopes
- cleaning of Flexible Endoscopes and accessories
- disinfection or sterilisation of Flexible Endoscopes
- storage of Flexible Endoscopes, and
- microbiological surveillance of Flexible Endoscopes, CESCs and water supplying the final rinse to AFERs
