This course has been designed to educate healthcare workers responsible for the packaging, sterilisation and storage of reusable medical devices, inclusive of other devices (hereafter referred to as RMDs) and the monitoring of Sterilisers. The course outlines correct practices in accordance with current standards, guidelines and manufacturers’ instructions for use.
This course has been designed to educate healthcare workers (HCWs) responsible for the packaging and sterilisation of RMDs, and the monitoring of Sterilisers. The course outlines correct practices in accordance with current standards, guidelines and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU).
This course includes:
- Packaging of RMDs - revised in accordance with current standards and guidelines, including requirements in relation to Count Sheets / Lists of Tray Contents
- Sterilisation of RMDs – revised in accordance with current standards and guidelines, including expanded guidance in relation to cooling of loads prior to release
- Distribution and storage of sterile RMDs, inclusive of shelf-life revised in accordance with current standards and guidelines, including expanded requirements related to transport and distribution of Sterile RMDs, shelving and storage container systems provided in the sterile store, ventilation systems supplying the sterile stock storage areas & non- conforming RMDs
- Monitoring and testing of the Sterilisers available – revised in accordance with current standards & guidelines, including additional guidance related to the monitoring of the chemical concentration for cycles in a low temperature vaporized hydrogen peroxide Steriliser as per ISO 22441
This module will provide you with an understanding of the packaging and sterilisation requirements for RMDs, including:
- selection and use of Sterile Barrier Systems (SBS)
- packaging of RMDs
- sterilisation of RMDs, and
- monitoring and testing of the Sterilisers available.
